Aloha all, I hope your week is off to a good start. It’s taken me another week to catch up after our “Celebration for Mr. Nak” extravaganza. But I’ve gotten back on track with the drawings. I found I was getting too caught up with wanting to make my drawings to be “exactly” as the photos I’d taken or as the still life set ups I created. My buddy Keith Slover gave me an out when he said, “hey even a quick sketch on the back of a napkin counts.”
So I grabbed the sketchpad and pen and did one contour drawing of a vase of gardenias and then I decided to just let loose, to go back to doodling. I worked on shapes and just filling the page with whatever came to me, but also keeping the idea of a good composition in mind. These are fun and I kinda like the face with a nose that looks like the number “5”.
I’ve also signed up for Part 2 of Brene A. Brown’s class on Oprah.com. The first lesson had to do with owning our creativity. One of the first assignments was to create a sign that said “I am a creative being.” That is a tough one for a lot of people to do, to own their creative side. As you know that is actually pretty easy for me, but what is a challenge is to remember that I am also a divine creative being. I busted out my special metallic colored pencils and this is my sign.
Here’s to another great week of creative fun. I hope you have enjoyed what I’m trying to do, which is practice, practice, practice. You are welcome to use these images in your blogs, all I ask is that you credit them to Rachel Funk Heller and add a link to this site, rachelfunkheller.com I LOVE hearing from you folks and I’m going out on a limb. If you leave a comment, I will enter your name in a drawing. At the end of each month the grand prize winner will win….. Any one (1) drawing from the month’s collection. Really. It’s your pick and I’m happy to share my work with you. Good Luck!
