Back on track. This week I started a new semester of my drawing class. Our homework was to do as many contour drawings as possible. So I looked around the house and the garden for various subjects including a potted plant, a vine, and an outdoor chair.

So the detail on the weaving is sparse, but I like it.

this vine looks fantastic when it blooms, I'm looking forward to drawing the flowers.

Then I had some time in the afternoon and wanted to practice my watercolor painting techniques. I love the wet-in-wet look so I tried just fooling around with some color:

Then I looked at a photo I took on New Year’s Day. It was the scene of the Mokapu peninsula. I tried painting it with no pencil sketch, just the paints.

And then for more fun, I busted out some pens and just scribbled a make believe tree, and then I used the left over watercolor to see how it would look. Kinda weird, but lots of fun.

I love how the black ink dissolves into component colors.

It felt good to be back in the groove, taking my time and looking at things in my world. I hope you have enjoyed what I’m trying to do, which is practice, practice, practice.
